Make money using social media

Yes it is possible!

When you think about social media, it used to be easy to dismiss it - but those times have changed.

Heard of 'six degrees of separation'?

It was a theory that first came about as early as 1929 and it states that everyone in the world can be connected to you through six 'friends of a friend'.

In those days the population a) wasn't as big as it is today and b) we didn't have the same technology available (the internet, smartphones, social media, wifi etc). So what might have taken you days/weeks/years to figure out in 1929 can today be found out in literally seconds/minutes/hours today.

It has given us concepts like crowdfunding and flash mobs - clear demonstrations that social media does work and it can generate actions on a massive scale, yes even trigger buying!

But how can you make money using social media? Here are some top tips:

  1. Know your target audience/customer: What age and gender are they, what retailers are they likely to also shop at - profile your customer carefully.

  2. Follow the right people/companies and follow back

  3. Keep your social media updated regularly: A channel that looks forgotten will be quickly forgotten by your customers.

  4. Promote your special offers/promotions: Post them onto your social media channels, remember to tailor the message appropriately for each channel.

  5. Join the conversation: Thank your customers for orders, talk to them! You are likely to gain more followers as a result, giving you more of a chance to win new business.
